Violence has always been a threat to human life, but the rise of mass shootings in America
really began in the nineties with Columbine. After the tragedy at Virginia Tech in 2007, campus safety became top of mind for administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and students. Colleges and corporations alike began to realize there was a need for pre-planning and real time notification during emergencies. They were right — how authorities respond during crises and how prepared they are for a specific kind of crisis, have a significant effect on the outcome.
